Family First Party Queensland has not made any blanket preference arrangements with either major party for this election campaign.
Family First has said from the very beginning that it would examine every seat on a case-by-case basis.
Family First had discussions with the Labor Party in early August, following an invitation to attend a meeting at their premises. The Coalition has made no attempt to contact Family First and has already indicated a Vote One campaign. However, a number of individual Coalition candidates have privately approached the party to discuss preferences.
Family First has decided to preference the ALP in five seats, the Coalition in seven seats, an Independent in one seat, and for the remaining 13 seats, which represents half of the seats where Family First have a candidate contesting, Family First has decided to run a campaign indicating 'Vote 1 Family First Candidate and NUMBER ALL REMAINING SQUARES'.
Family First is opposed to optional preferential voting because voters who just vote 1 risk their vote being thrown into the bin if their nominated candidate does not finish first or second in the ballot.
The seats where preferences will flow to the ALP:
- Burdekin
- Glasshouse
- Mudgeeraba
- Logan
- Ipswich West
The Seats with preferences flowing to the Coalition are:- Gympie
- Ferny Grove
- Sandgate
- Toowoomba North
- Toowoomba South
- Cunningham
- Lockyer
The Independent, Dorothy Pratt, will receive Family First preferences in Nanango.
Within the remaining 13 seats where Family First has candidates, the party's indication to the electorate will be 'Vote 1 Family First and NUMBER ALL REMAINING SQUARES'.
