The Prime Minister has now promised to repeal the Road Safety Remuneration Tribunal (RSRT), if he wins the coming election. This is cold comfort for the estimated 35,000 family trucking firms, given the Coalitions slide in the polls and the likelihood that even if they do win they will most likely have a hostile Greens/Xenophon balance of power in the senate.
There is a growing sense that the Coalition is using the promise to repeal the RSRT as a means to capture more votes at the coming election, this would be repugnant if true. Repealing the RSRT was actually Coalition policy going into the 2013 election. Politicians cannot play with the lives of trucking families, they need to act and act now.
Family First will always stand up for small business and calls on the government to show some moral courage and repeal the RSRT.
